European settlers in America attended this famous demonstration. In 1773, they poured tons of tea imported from Britain into the waters of Boston harbor. They were protesting against paying taxes to help the British government fund the wars it was fighting in far-away Europe. They wanted to ban all British taxes, and campaigned for the freedom to rule their own land.
