Young fleas are tiny, worm-like larvae. The larva lives in the nest on the animal its living on, and feeds on drops of dry blood from the faeces of the adults. After two or three weeks, it turns into a pupa (the stage just before it becomes an adult). It may wait some time before hatching out. The movement of the host animal stirs the adult fleas into moving.
