Why do fleas spread the plague?
Plague is a disease that is carried by rats. Fleas that carry the disease live on rats and can then jump onto humans and bite them. The plague spreads very quickly. Outbreaks in the Middle Ages, such as the Black Death, wiped out half the human population in some areas of Europe. Outbreaks of plague still occur.
