How can you tell an arachnid from an insect?
The most obvious difference is in the number of legs. An insect (for example, an ant) has six legs, and an arachnid (for example, a scorpion) has eight. Both insects and arachnids are members of a large group called arthropods. This group also includes crustaceans (such as crabs), centipedes, and millipedes. Many arthropods are endangered by human activities.
