Why do lizards pretend to be beetles?
One little lizard, that lives in the Kalahari Desert, has a tail colored like desert sand. The rest of its body is black and white, so while the tail disappears into the background, the body looks like a desert beetle that tastes horrible. Predators that have learnt that the beetle is nasty avoid the lizard. As it grows too big to be mistaken for a beetle, the lizard loses its black and white coloring and becomes camouflaged against its desert background.
