The only seaweed-eating lizard is the marine iguana from the Galapagos Islands. It lives on the seashore and dives into the water, to feed on weeds that grow on rocks. The sea off the Galapagos is cooled by the Humboldt Current, but the iguana can drop its heart rate so it does not slow down in the cold, as other reptiles do. The marine iguana also has special glands that get rid of salt from the water.
