Your heart pushes the blood along your blood vessels at high pressure. Blood pressure varies around your body. If your blood pressure is too high it can damage your health. Your blood flows along at different speeds. In the aorta, it flows at a speed of 30cm (12in) a second. In the capillaries, it slows to 1cm (0.4in) a second.
