The high life
The higher up you go, the lower the amount of oxygen in the air and the more difficult it is to breathe. Mountaineers often have to use oxygen masks. The Quechua Indians live 3,650m (12,000ft) up in the Andes in South America. To help them breathe more easily, they have larger hearts and lungs which can carry more oxygen than normal.
