Food travels
As food travels through you, it is broken into particles small enough to be absorbed into your blood. This is called digestion. 1. Your teeth and tongue chop and mash the food. It is mixed with saliva. 2. The food goes down your oesophagus (gullet) into your stomach. 3. Digestive juices break the food down into a creamy mixture. 4. The mixture goes down your small intestine. More juices are added. 5. The food is absorbed into your blood through the wall of your small intestine. 6. Any unabsorbed food goes into the large intestine and then out of your body as faeces.
