There are over 4,000 different kinds of mammals in the world. These are divided into 19 groups called 'orders'. The rodent order is the biggest with about 1,750 species, while the aardvark is the only living member of its order. There are very few mammals in the world compared to other animals and there are hundreds of times more insects than there are mammals.
