When a baby kangaroo, or 'joey', is born it is only about the size of a bee and is blind and helpless. The joey crawls into its mother's pouch and stays there for six months, feeding on milk and growing. It comes out of the pouch for the first time after about 28 weeks and leaves the pouch for good after about 33 weeks.
