The mammal which lives the longest, after man, is the Asian elephant. The oldest on record was called Modoc. She died in California, USA in July 1975, at the age of 75. During her long career in the circus, Modoc survived two attempts to poison her and a terrible fire. The fire made her a heroine when she dragged the lions' cage out of the big top tent to safety. She starred in several TV series before retiring.
