The oldest ape was a male orang-utan called Guas in the Philadelphia Zoo, USA. He died in 1977 at the age of 57. Massa, an African western lowland gorilla from the same zoo, celebrated his 50th birthday in 1980. One of his presents was a T-shirt from the actor Clint Eastwood. Massa died in 1984.
