Ears get cold quickly especially if the wind is blowing. The jack rabbit from the USA and the fennec fox from the Sahara Desert use their huge ears to keep cool. Air blowing across the ears cools down the blood in the ears. The jack rabbit's ears can be 21 cm (8 in) long, a quarter of the total length of its body.
