A duck-billed platypus has a beak similar to a bird's but it is soft. It uses its beak to sift mud for food and has a pair of nostrils near the tip. The beak has lots of very sensitive nerve endings and the platypus finds its food of worms and small fish by touch. Underwater, a platypus can cover its eyes and ears to stop water getting in.
