The rare snow leopard, or ounce, lives in the mountains of Central Asia. It has a thick, smoky-grey coat with black rosette markings. In summer the snow leopard lives nearly 6,000 m (20,000 ft) up in the mountain peaks. In winter it comes down to the lower slopes below 3,000 m (10,000 ft) in search of food.
