Another group of mammals found only in Madagascar are tenrecs. There are about 20 species of these small insect-eaters. Some have bristly coats like hedgehogs, others have fur. The common tenrec is the largest insect-eater in Madagascar. It may be as much as 40 cm (16 in) long, about the same size as a cat.
