Dolphins hunt with the aid of their own built-in sonar system, called echolocation. As they swim along, they produce a stream of clicking sounds. Sound waves from the clicks spread out through the water. When they hit an object, such as a shoal of fish, they bounce back. The dolphin can sense the size, and movements, of its prey, by listening to the echoes.
