High and low notes
High sounds are caused by the air vibrating very quickly. Low sounds are made by the air vibrating slowly. In a low rumble, the air vibrates about 20 times a second. In a very high note, it vibrates 20,000 times a second. Your cochlea picks up the different vibrations.
